The Key to Your Promotion
One of the most common mistakes I see Christians making in the workplace is the false belief that "the boss" is the paramount factor in whether or not they receive a promotion. They see the person who has been set over them as the one who holds their future in his hands. This is pure short-sightedness.
If you cannot see beyond your boss, you'll miss the true key to promotion.
When you have a boss-centered view of promotion, your sole focus is trying to please him. You want desperately to earn his favor because favor results in raises and promotions. If you fall out of favor, perhaps because you're a Christian and he's not, then you'll see your opportunities for increase as small or non-existent.
Is this the biblical view? Not according to Psalm 75:
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. (Psalm 75:6,7)
The truth is, your entire future is determined by God and your response to Him — not by your company. In His Word, God repeatedly promises us rewards and blessing if we'll do things His way and respond to His Word in faith.
Once you fully comprehend that God and your response to Him determine your career, you will be set free from worry. You will no longer fret about some other person's control over your level of achievement. That control is only an illusion.
As Proverbs 29:26 says:
Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the Lord.
Do your work as unto the Lord. Be the best employee you can be because of the way it reflects on your King. And I assure you, promotion will come. No boss on earth can stop it.
